Global Initiatives and Collaborations
● Member of the Innovation Team awarded $50,000US to design and implement the Global Neuroanatomy Network.
● Engaged with a number of podcast programs: Anatomy in Clay, European Federation for Experimental Morphology, Anatomy Education, to raise awareness of issues facing the global anatomical community.
● Engaged by Emeritus Professors Leslie Gartner and Maria Patesas to edit and contribute as an author on the third edition of “A Textbook of Neuroanatomy.”
● One of four reviewers for the Histology Colouring Book.
● Wrote evidence-based scripts for four videos for Primal Pictures Learning Outcomes for Medicine project.
Leadership and Financial Membership
● Significantly increased membership of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Clinical Anatomists (ANZACA) and controlled/reported on Australian finances between December 2020 and February 2024 as Treasurer.
● Organised and hosted the 2019 ANZACA conference, secured external funding, and generated a profit used to increase the number of student fellowships the next year.
● Wrote and implemented the Code of Conduct for ANZACA to establish a clear guide on professional behaviour and how to deal with conflicts.
● Provided a well-received Professional Development seminar on “Getting More Done By Working Together” that is now hosted on YouTube.
● Executive Group Member of the ANZACA Education Subcommittee, who are developing a Digital Education Initiative and Mentorship Program to support anatomists.
● Highly respected member of the Reviewer Board of Anatomical Sciences Education journal since 2017.
To the Wider Community
Global educational outreach
● Awarded $9000 to implement a National Science Week histology of the eye workshop to the public. 40 participants (50% <14 yrs, 20% 15-20 yrs, 30% 31-60 yrs): 71% agreed it made them more interested in science, 100% agreed they learned something new, 100% would recommend the experience to others.
● Wrote an article for The Conversation’s Curious Kids that has been viewed almost 900 times globally (USA: 431, UK: 139, Australia: 57, Canada: 46, India: 26, Philippines: 2, Singapore: 12, Norway: 11, South Africa: 10, New Zealand: 10) and is the 23rd most popular article from a UWA author.
● Contributed to LiveScience story on “Why Do Our Fingernails Keep Growing Until the Day We Die?”
● Contributed to ABC Radio Hobart’s section “Why are so many body parts named after people?”
